Stop Worry, by Jennifer Johnson

When we face personal challenges, work demands, or even everyday responsibilities in our lives, they can move us into a cycle of worrying and ‘what if’ thoughts. Worry comes from a fear of the unknown. The energy of fear can drag us down and create congestion. We can feel stuck, overwhelmed, and at times, it may seem like we are the only ones struggling. However, worry is actually a universal feeling.
People will say, “Why are you worrying so much?” Everything will be ok! You are strong, you are courageous, but still we worry. The ego steps in and we think; we overthink, and then become fearful of what may happen.
When worries are vague it can make things worse. If you are able to articulate exactly what you are worrying about, it can be beneficial. For example, if you have an upcoming meeting that you are concerned about, stating the worry aloud to yourself may help. There is power in awareness, and recognizing what is causing you to worry can lead you to your next action steps.
Being in the NOW, pausing for a moment, taking a deep breath, and then asking yourself “Why are you feeling stressed?” This allows you to reflect on what you may be able to change about the situation, or what you may need to accept. When we are stressed our breathing becomes shallow. Mindful breathing can reset our nervous system. Four slow breaths in, and slowly exhaling.
We are creatures of habit but we can make changes and reclaim peace within. We have the ability to create a new reality- positive mind set, remain balanced and to be centered with a few tools.
Shifting one's way of thinking from, “This is too difficult”, and viewing the situation as an opportunity of expansion / growth, is one idea. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this experience?” I am in no way implying that it is easy, but it puts the focus on what you are able to control instead of the scenario controlling you.
Our Angels, the Divine, Spirit Guides, and a Higher Power are always present to assist us. It is amazing how ASKING, passing the worry on -letting go- can bring a positive uplifting feeling or shift in our thoughts. Journaling, spending time in nature, meditation, massage, crystals for worry, and nutritional support are all ways that can bring us back to feeling centered.
A worry box is another idea: keep it by your bed and if you wake up and have repetitive thoughts, put pen to paper and place it in the box. If all else fails, think beyond oneself and send healing thoughts or prayers to a friend or loved one. One more way to anchor your thoughts and ignite HOPE!
